Anticipatory action in Asia-Pacific

The Asia Pacific region is one of the most diverse in the world. It’s home to nearly 4.5 billion people – some 60 percent of the global population and where 70 percent of the world’s disasters hit including devastating impacts of cyclones, floods, droughts, and heatwaves. Anticipatory Action has been widely accepted and adopted by humanitarian partners and governments as a way to better protect lives and livelihoods and maintain people’s self-reliance.

In this corner of the Anticipation Hub, we provide a space to advance partnership opportunities, exchange knowledge and together advocate for Anticipatory Action to change the way we manage crises in the Asia Pacific region and support scaling up.

In the Asia Pacific region, various stakeholders have been steering forward this agenda. They include the Red Cross and Red Crescent (RCRC) Movement, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), the Office for Coordination and Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), START Network, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), along with governments, national meteorological and hydrological services, research institutions and universities.
