Climate change is a major threat in Fiji, with its islands being highly vulnerable to rising sea levels, coastal floods and extreme weather events. Cyclones are a notable threat from November to April, while drought, floods and tsunamis all affect the country.
Anticipatory action is increasingly seen as a way to minimize the humanitarian impacts of these hazards. The Fijian government is working with humanitarian organizations to institutionalize this approach within the country’s disaster risk management system, for example by developing national-level frameworks for different hazards.
