Hazards covered by anticipation
Cyclone / Typhoon / Hurricane
Vanuatu is a volcanic archipelago, but eruptions and ashfall are not the only risks its population faces. Cyclones, drought, extreme temperatures, earthquakes, floods and tsunamis all pose a threat, not only putting lives at risk, but also impeding the country’s economic development.
Anticipatory action offers a way to reduce the impacts of forecastable hazards. This approach is progressing in Vanuatu, with the early focus for many humanitarian organizations being anticipating the impacts of cyclones.
