Launching the training package on anticipatory action for the Asia-Pacific region
As the landscape of Anticipatory Action (AA) evolves in the Asia-Pacific region, the need for better coordination and consistency around the approach has become clear. Different terms, definitions and approaches have been used, creating a fragmented understanding of AA practices.
During the 6th Asia-Pacific Dialogue Platform on AA in 2022, AA practitioners outlined their goals for AA and highlighted the importance of creating a minimum training package on AA at the regional level which can be adapted and contextualized at the national and local levels. The 2023 mapping report by the Asia-Pacific Technical Working Group on Anticipatory Action (AP-TWGAA) further revealed that most organizations either do not have a full training package on AA, or have one tailored to their specific organization. A standard training package would bridge this gap, providing the clarity needed to build capacity for AA.
To address these needs, the AP-TWGAA established a training sub-group, dedicated to developing a training package that any agency can use. This product aimed to enhance the alignment of messages delivered to partners and government actors, better equipping national actors to take proactive measures before a forecasted hazard.
The efforts of the AP-TWGAA culminated in a successful Training of Trainers held in Bangkok on April 23-25 2024. Following the session, AP-TWGAA is now launching its minimum training package on Anticipatory Action on the Anticipation Hub to make it accessible to all practitioners. This training package on AA contains eight main modules plus one optional module on AA for those who wish to adapt based on their capacity-building needs.
Module 1: AA Concept and Key Building Blocks
Module 2: Developing an AA Protocol
Module 3: AA Trigger Development
Module 4: AA Financing
Module 5: Simulation Exercise
Module 6: Operationalizing AA
Module 7: AA Monitoring and Evaluation
Module 8: Institutionalizing AA
Module 9 (optional): AA and Social Protection
