Sri Lanka

Several hazards threaten people in Sri Lanka. The country has high exposure to cyclones, while epidemics are another major threat, especially dengue. In the hill country, landslides are a risk, while other regions experience droughts and floods.  

In recent years, many practitioners and organizations have embedded anticipatory action within their work, and frameworks are now in place for many of these hazards. Anticipatory action is also being steadily institutionalized in Sri Lanka. The first national dialogue platform was held in 2024, and work is under way to develop a comprehensive national framework for anticipatory action, including a roadmap and minimum technical standards, alongside a standardized approach for developing frameworks for different hazards.
