Anticipatory action in the world

Acting prior to the onset of a predictable hazard to safeguard lives and livelihoods is now becoming increasingly accepted and gradually embedded within the humanitarian system and disaster risk management.

It has only been a few years since humanitarian agencies started to develop systems to take action based on forecasts and risk analysis in a small number of pilot countries. Since then this movement has kept on growing: There are now anticipatory action initiatives and projects in more than 70 countries in the world.
