During COVID-19, educational materials were modified to include information on recognizing and mitigating risk of illness; Social distancing was enforced for volunteers and beneficiaries; Face masks and bottles of hand sanitizer were added to hygiene kits; Hand sanitizer was available at all distribution points; Distributions were done in shaded open air locations whenever possible; An increased quantity of hand sanitizer was distributed to beneficiaries;

Detail of action

Disseminate early warning messages via community radios, megaphones, and community meetings. Messages will be in the local language and tailored to the local context, but will include, among other information safe evacuation routes, location of temporary accommodation sites, important items to bring in case of evacuation, emergency contact numbers.

Multi hazard considerations

During COVID-19, Mozambique added the following language to their EAP: "As a consequence of the COVID19 pandemic activities implemented in the context of this EAP (readiness, preparedness and activation) shall be carried out following international and national preventive measures for the limitation of the further spread of the virus. This includes respecting distancing rules, the use of personal protection equipment (PPE) and equipment for hygiene, frequent hand washing, maximum size of groups of people (max 20) and continuous dissemination and awareness raising on the COVID19 and its prevention."

Assist people in evacuating livestock by constructing sage evacuation spaces for swine, goat, carabao, and cattle near human evacuation centers. These centers are built through cash for work programs. Animals are provided with food and water at the evacuation site for maximum 3 days, at which point the owner is responsible for providing food if evacuation continues.

Using tractors BDRCS helps people to evacuate along with their assets and livestock. Providing help moving livestock and assets will encourage them to leave rather than stay behind. One of the main pre-conditions for utilizing tractors is the availability of usable roads to the cyclone shelters.

Multi hazard considerations

During COVID-19, BDRCS delayed evacuation to last minute to minimize crowding, identified extra shelters to allow for physical distancing, and disinfected shelters prior to evacuees arrival.
