Tropical cyclones regularly hit Mozambique, striking along the coast and inland. Flooding due to extreme rainfall and storms is another common hazard, as are disease outbreaks and droughts. People’s vulnerability to the impacts of these hazards is high, due to their limited capacity to cope.
Mozambique has several frameworks in place to anticipate some of these hazards. As one of the first country to implement this approach, organizations in the country have longstanding experience with activating these frameworks. These are closely coordinated with the National Institute for Disaster Management, the National Institute of Meteorology and the National Directorate for Water Resources Management.
