Description

Facilitation: Welthungerhilfe under WAHAFA (Welthungerhilfe Anticipatory Humanitarian Action Facility) and various supporting partners (e.g. CBM, HelpAge, Save the Children, German Red Cross)

Brief description: In humanitarian crisis contexts groups that might already be marginalized in the respective community, such as persons with disabilities, the elderly, or women, are facing disproportionate risks. To address these risks anticipatory approaches need to be shaped in a participatory and inclusive way for them to be as effective as possible and to ‘leave no one behind’. In this workshop, participants discuss the particular challenges and dilemmas that AA practitioners are facing with regard to the inclusion and protection of vulnerable groups. The participants learn about promising pathways to address these challenges, such as community-based EAP-development or linking Anticipatory Humanitarian Action (AA) to social protection schemes. Welthungerhilfe and various organisations such as CBM, HelpAge, Save the Children and German Red Cross will provide practical insights and give examples for best practices and challenges around inclusion and protection.

Objectives of the training:

  • The participants are aware of the particular risks that vulnerable groups are facing in the context of humanitarian crises.
  • They have the opportunity to reflect on the challenges that AA practitioners are exposed to with regard to meaningful inclusion of vulnerable groups in AA.
  • They learn about best practices to maximize participation and address the needs of vulnerable groups in AA projects.
  • They acquire a basic understanding of the potential linkages between AA and (social) protection mechanisms.
