With three distinct climatic zones, Zambia is exposed to a variety of hazards: drought, epidemics, floods, pests and wildfires. Of these, floods affect the most people, for example by destroying houses and infrastructure (e.g., health facilities, schools) and disrupting commercial activities. Drought is the main concern in the country’s southern regions.
Anticipatory action is well established in Zambia as a way to support communities ahead many of these hazards. Several organizations have been implementing this approach for a number of years, ensuring the country is well placed to scale up its efforts.
