Hazards covered by anticipation

  • Flood

Burundi, a small, landlocked country, is frequently affected by hazards. Droughts, floods and extreme rainfall are prominent challenges, while certain regions are also affected by landslides, soil erosion and storms. Increasing climate variability is expected to have severe impacts on people’s food security and livelihoods.

Anticipatory action is emerging as an important approach for helping vulnerable people to cope with the impacts of these hazards, with several partners in the country actively developing frameworks for at-risk regions.
