Hazards covered by anticipation

  • Multiple

South Sudan faces many hazards. Several extreme flood events have hit the country in recent years, while disease outbreaks, heat waves and landslides also pose threats. People’s ability to cope with these shocks is severely impaired by the ongoing political and security situation, with instability and conflict affecting much of the country and leading to many people being displaced.

Anticipatory action offers an effective way to support those at risk and there have been several activations in South Sudan in recent years. The government is leading efforts to strengthen this approach further, for example by developing a national roadmap for this approach.
