Somalia

Somalia is afflicted by many hazards, with droughts and floods posing the most recurrent and severe risks to the population. It is also one of the poorest and most fragile countries in the world, which reduces people’s capacity to cope with the impacts of hazards. The ongoing conflict in southern and central Somalia has also resulted in large numbers of internally displaced people.  

In recent years, Somalia has established a strong foundation for anticipatory action, with several organizations advancing this approach in the country. These efforts are supported by the government, which is leading efforts to institutionalize anticipatory action within the country’s wide system for disaster risk management.
