Hazards covered by anticipation

  • El Niño / La Niña
  • Flood
  • Volcanic ash / volcanic activity

Ecuador is highly exposed to several hazards, including seismic activity and volcanic eruptions. Droughts, floods and landslides also pose a threat, as do El Niño-related hazards.

Anticipatory action is emerging in the country as a way to help those at risk reduce the impacts of these hazards. There has also been progress in terms of scaling up this approach within the country, including at the 1st National Dialogue Platform, held in 2024.
