Hazards covered by anticipation

Flooding is the most significant and recurrent risk in Ghana, particularly in urban areas such as Accra, where heavy rainfall, poor drainage and rapid urbanization are all contributing factors. Riverine floods also occur along major systems such as the Volta. In the northern regions, droughts and dry spells are common.

Anticipatory action is emerging in Ghana. The country has made progress in strengthening early warning systems, for example, and there is growing interest in forecast-based anticipatory actions.
