Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic faces the impacts of cyclones and hurricanes most years (August to October) while droughts, floods and mudslides also affect the country. Heat waves and wildfires have also increased in recent years. Like much of the Caribbean, it is affected by the El Niño Southern Oscillation, which can bring warmer and drier-than-average conditions between June and August; La Niña episodes bring colder, wetter conditions. 

Anticipatory action is emerging in the country as an way to help those at risk reduce the impacts of these hazards. Dominican Republic is also part of wider regional efforts to scale up anticipatory action.
