Community Perception Report: Flood, Landslide And Heavy Rain
This report presents findings from a quantitative survey conducted in 12 districts of Nepal across four provinces (Province One, Province Two, Lumbini and Sudhurpaschim) in 2021.Across respondents, 85 percent reported loss of crops as the biggest impact of the 2021 heavy rains, followed by house damaged/destroyed (57 percent) and damage to land (52 percent). Most respondents also felt that the disaster created particular difficulties for women and children. Yet, 56 percent of respondents felt nobody was listening to the needs of their community. Top priorities identified included food (68 percent), livelihood support (58 percent), long term shelter (22 percent) and access to clean water (20 percent). In addition, 60 percent of respondents said they preferred cash, with 33 percent preferring in-kind support. 68 percent of respondents said they did not receive any early warning messages prior to disaster, a critical action for future preparedness.
