Hazards covered by anticipation

  • Cold wave / heavy snowfall
  • Heat wave

Tajikistan is vulnerable to several weather- and climate-related hazards, including cold waves, drought, floods, heat waves, landslides and mudflows. These not only threaten people’s lives, but also their livelihoods: over 50 per cent of the working population depends on agriculture to earn an income, and this sector is highly susceptible to these hazards. Earthquakes are another risk, causing damage to infrastructure and putting lives in danger.

Humanitarian organizations in Tajikistan have developed anticipatory action frameworks for some of these hazards, notably cold waves and heat waves.
