Chile

Chile faces a diverse range of natural hazards due to its geography and climate. Earthquakes are a major risk, as the country lies along the Pacific Ring of Fire and regularly experiences powerful seismic events. It is also highly exposed to droughts, floods, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and wildfires, many of which have caused significant damage to communities and infrastructure in recent years.

Anticipatory action in Chile is emerging but not yet fully institutionalized. The country has strong systems for disaster risk management and early warnings, providing a solid basis for this approach to scale up. Recent pilot initiatives have shown the potential for this approach in the country.
