Hazards covered by anticipation

Brazil faces a range of hazards. Seasonal floods and landslides are common during the rainy season (December to March), often triggered by heavy rainfall and worsened by deforestation. By contrast, the semi-arid north-eastern regions experience frequent droughts and heat waves, with rising temperatures and changing precipitation patterns leading to longer, more severe dry periods in other regions. Many of these are becoming more intense due to climate change.

Anticipatory action offers a way for the country to alleviate the humanitarian impacts of many hazards.
