Description

We are pleased to invite all Geneva-based partners, or those with staff in this region, to an in-person roundtable discussion on ‘Anticipatory Action in 2025: From Humanitarian Innovation to Global Policy’, co-hosted by the Anticipation Hub and the IFRC, which will mark the launch of the report Anticipatory Action in 2025: A Global Overview, published by the Anticipation Hub.

Looking back on 2025, which marked ten years since the first anticipatory action initiatives were piloted, this report captures the scale and evolution of anticipatory action worldwide and provides an overview of progress achieved, remaining challenges, and opportunities for scaling up in the years ahead.

Discussions will focus, inter alia, on the implications of the report’s findings for the Early Warnings for All initiative and the increasing institutionalization of anticipatory action within national disaster-risk-management systems. The discussion will explore current gaps and challenges, and ways forward, including concrete opportunities to further integrate anticipatory action into policy, financing, and operational systems.

The event will feature contributions from Jagan Chapagain, Secretary General of the IFRC, and Kamal Kishore, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction and Head of UNDRR, among others. There will also be space for questions and reflections from Geneva-based missions and organizations.

The event will be followed by a reception, offering space for informal exchange and networking.

There will also be a community conversation in the following week for those who are unable to attend. You can find more information here.
