Anticipatory Action: Somalia
This briefing reports on the anticipatory action framework adopted for drought in Somalia. This includes discussion of the model used to forecast and make decisions, the pre-arranged financing, and the delivery through pre-agreed action planning. Trigger thresholds for action are detailed. The threshold must include the projected population in IPC phase 3+ exceeding 20 percent, and one of the following: the projected population at IPC3+ to increase by a further 5 percent or the projected population at IPC4+ to exceed 2.5 percent. The trigger was reached in June 2020, providing an opportunity to demonstrate the value anticipatory action and for additional learning. A table is provided showing the relevant anticipatory action response and goal for education, food security, health, nutrition, protection, risk communication, and WASH.
