Submit sessions about anticipatory action to HNPW and GPDRR

The Anticipation Hub is calling on its partners and the wider anticipatory action community to submit sessions on this theme to two important events taking place in 2025: Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week (HNPW) and the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR 2025).

HNPW

What is HNPW, and when and where is it taking place?
HNPW is an annual humanitarian conference, one of the largest of its kind, that provides a collaborative space for practitioners and experts from the broader humanitarian sector, including UN agencies, NGOs, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, academia, the military and private sector initiatives. In 2025 HPNW will be held in a hybrid format from 17 to 28 March, with remote sessions scheduled for 17 to 21 March and face-to-face sessions from 24 to 28 March at the International Conference Center in Geneva, Switzerland.

Anticipatory action at HNPW
As in previous years, anticipatory action will be one of the nine 'areas of common concern'; in other words, a key topic for the conference and for cross-network collaboration. We encourage you to submit sessions related to this theme via the event website.

The Anticipation Hub will host an exhibition stand throughout the face-to-face week of HNPW.

Deadlines
The submission deadline is 8 December 2024. Abstracts and the preferred date/time must be provided before registration. Sessions with complete abstracts and dates/times will be published in the event programme from 20 December 2024. Further details on the registration and submission process can be found here

GPDRR

What is the GPDRR ?

The GPDRR is a biennial international forum recognized by the UN General Assembly for assessing and advancing progress towards the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. It brings together governments, policy-makers, UN agencies, NGOs, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and other stakeholders to share knowledge and accelerate actions in the field of disaster risk reduction. The 2025 edition will take place from 2 to 6 June 2025 at the CICG in Geneva, Switzerland.

What is the focus of the GPDRR 2025?

The overall theme for GPDRR 2025 is 'Every day counts, act for resilience today'. There are four priority themes, based on the Sendai Mid-term Review Political declaration:

  1. Understanding disaster risk
  2. Strengthening disaster risk governance
  3. Investing in disaster risk reduction for resilience
  4. Enhancing disaster preparedness for effective response and to 'Build Back Better' in recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction.

Anticipatory action is relevant to all four priorities.
