Alessandra Gilotta stands down as head of the Anticipation Hub

After two years as head of the Anticipation Hub, Alessandra Gilotta is stepping down from her role. This decision comes as she relocates to Italy to be closer to her family. The Anticipation Hub will share news about her successor shortly.

It is with a heavy heart that I leave this incredible community. Over the past two years, I have had the privilege of leading the Anticipation Hub’s growth, alongside a fantastic and highly dedicated team in Berlin and across the globe. While my journey is taking me to Italy for family reasons, I am incredibly proud of what we have built together; the anticipatory action community is in a stronger, more connected position than ever before.

Alessandra steered the team during a critical period. As well as overseeing the hosting of two global dialogue platforms and numerous regional events, she also set the stage for the Hub’s future by initiating the development of a new three-year strategy that will guide its Hub’s work over the next three years.

A farewell note from Alessandra reflecting on the milestones

“We have accomplished a great deal together over the years.

"Global reach. We hosted a record number of dialogue platforms, including the first-ever regional dialogue platforms for the Middle East and North Africa (Dubai in 2024) and for West and Central Africa (Dakar in 2025).

"A growing network. Our partnership base has nearly doubled, from 106 partners in 2024 to 170, across 56 countries, in 2026. This includes government entities such as Mozambique’s Instituto Nacional de Gestão e Redução do Risco de Desastres (INGD), Somalia’s Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) and China’s National Early Warning Centre, as well as numerous local NGOs that are implementing anticipatory actions on the ground.

"New services. We developed and piloted new services, such as after-action reviews, and advanced a comprehensive suite of learning and capacity-strengthening tools to bolster national and regional systems for anticipatory action.

"Thematic leadership. We launched new, global technical working groups on locally led action, anticipatory cash, and on displacement. These groups now convene over 500 members to exchange knowledge and produce tools for practitioners.

"Strategic mandates. Within the Grand Bargain Caucus framework, the Anticipation Hub was mandated to track the 'build' and 'fuel' funding for anticipatory action provided by donors; this data will be a cornerstone of our future annual global overview reports.

"Digital transformation. We successfully updated the Anticipation Hub website with a modern, user-centred design to better serve our global community.

“More than the milestones we’ve hit, it is the spirit of this community that I will carry with me. I am stepping away with a great sense of fulfillment and confidence in our shared future. The Hub has become a truly thriving ecosystem, and with the strategic roadmap we have begun, I know the team is perfectly positioned to reach even greater heights.

"I want to thank the team and you, our partners, for your trust and excellent collaboration over the past two years. I look forward to cheering you all on from Italy as you continue to transform the humanitarian system into a more anticipatory one. I remain your biggest advocate and cannot wait to see the incredible impact this community will continue to make in the years ahead. Onwards and upwards!"
