Comoros

Comoros is highly exposed to climate-related hazards, due to its location in the tropical southwest Indian Ocean. It faces frequent cyclones, while flooding and heavy rainfall are also a threat. In addition, Comoros is home to one of the world’s most active volcanoes, Mount Karthala on Grande Comore. Eruptions occur roughly once every decade, when ash clouds and lava flows pose serious risks to nearby populations. 

Many people in the country have limited capacity to cope with disasters, amplifying the humanitarian impacts when they occur. In light of these factors, anticipatory action is being pushed forwards to reduce the risks and enhance people’s resilience.
