Description

To boost effective learning, SADC and RAAWG are planning the 2nd Southern Africa Dialogue Platform: El Niño Insights: Southern Africa Anticipation After Action Review, bringing together member states, RAAWG members, academic institutions and scientific reference centers and the donor community. Jointly, participants will reflect on the large-scale El Niño drought anticipatory action activations, assessing the performance of forecast-based trigger models, the impact of implemented actions, and display evidence generated on the return-on-investment and cost effectiveness of executed ex-ante operations.

After two days of technical discussions on the performance of anticipatory action system components, SADC Secretariat will call for a third day with representation from Permanent Secretaries, Directors from Disaster Management, Agriculture and Food Security and Meteorology to convey key outcomes of the ENAAR technical discussions and endorse a high-level recommitment to the SADC Maputo Declaration on Bridging the Gap between Early Warning and Early Action and the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) roadmap for southern Africa.
