Description

Start Network Crisis Anticipation and Risk Financing team is pleased to invite you to the October FOREWARN Community meeting - with a focus on flooding.

Last time, we focused on epidemics and looked closely at the Start Fund experience of anticipating Covid-19 in Sierra Leone and Timor Leste. We then looked at examples from National FOREWARNs; Bangladesh developing dengue early action protocols and Philippines collaboration with the University of Philippines Risk Institute to develop a dengue fever anticipation tool. This was followed by updates from our partners: REAP, the UK Met Office, the African Centre for Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD) and MSF. Minutes, recordings, and community member updates are available here.

This time, we will focus on the Start Fund experience of anticipating flooding, including Disaster Risk Finance work in Pakistan, and we invite FOREWARN community members to share their own flooding work, tools or experiences that could support collaboration to effectively anticipate flooding. Please contact FOREWARN@startprogrammes.org with your request to share an update by Friday 17th September 2021, following which the final agenda will be shared.

This meeting will also include the regular updates from our Crisis Anticipation and Risk Financing team, including our national FOREWARN projects in Bangladesh, Madagascar, Pakistan and the Philippines.

We are working hard to make these meetings accessible to all time zones, and hope to bring a range of options in the future. The full meeting recording will be shared as well as ways to engage with presenters, but please contact FOREWARN@startprogrammes.org if you have difficulty attending the meeting; creating connections and partnerships is fundamental to FOREWARN and your feedback will help us find solutions for future meetings.

Please find the minutes of the previous meetings here and further documents here
