Community conversation #41 Anticipatory action in Europe: what’s happening – and what’s next?

  • Emerging Topics

Event details:

Thursday, December 3, 2026 10:00 AM GMT+1 - 11:30 AM GMT+1

Description

To date, anticipatory action has largely been implemented in three regions: Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America. There are, however, a small but growing number of organizations and projects that are investigating its potential in Europe. With Europe increasingly suffering from the impacts from the climate crisis, how could anticipatory action help to protect its citizens ahead of climate-related hazards? And could it extend beyond these, as it has in other parts of the world?

In this community conversation, some of the organizations behind these developments will share updates on what is happening across Europe. There will also be an open discussion to consider which other countries could benefit from applying anticipatory action, and how its implementation might differ from what we have seen worldwide to date.

Speakers for this community conversation include:

  • Dr Lydia Cumiskey, University of Cork and lead for the AMPLIFY project
  • Moritz Krüger, German Red Cross

Others to be announced.
