Early Warning and Early Action in Least Developed Countries in Conflict and Post-conflict Situations in Africa

Across Africa, disasters are increasing in frequency and intensity, yet critical gaps in multi-hazard early warning systems (MHWESs) persist. These challenges are particularly acute in least developed countries (LDCs) affected by active conflict and insecurity, high levels of displacement, or the complex demands of post-conflict recovery and reconstruction. 

To make MHEWSs effective, they must be people-centred and inclusive, designed to function amid insecurity, and responsive to the needs of displaced and crisis-affected populations. This also requires stronger links across humanitarian, development, and climate actors, alongside financing that can reach the areas and communities where needs are most urgent.

Building on the workshop on “Early Warning and Early Action in Least Developed Countries in Conflict and Post-conflict Situations in Africa”, held in December 2025 in Nairobi as part of the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) initiative and co-organized by UNDRR, OHRLLS, WMO, ITU and IFRC, this follow-up webinar will share key findings and recommendations on strengthening multi-hazard early warning systems in challenging contexts. It will highlight practical lessons and scalable solutions identified by countries and partners, and discuss ways to support priority actions and financing pathways to ensure those most at risk are protected through early warning systems.
