Community conversation #29: How can meteorological services support the preparation, planning and post-assessment of anticipatory actions?
Event details:
Description
In our upcoming webinar, GeoSphere Austria — the national institute for geology, geophysics, meteorology, and climatology — will present how its services can support the anticipatory action (AA) community across various stages. This includes addressing critical observational gaps in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDCs) through initiatives like the Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF); developing and implementing hazard-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), with case studies such as heatwaves in Austria and Albania; and offering global forecasting services via the WMO Coordination Mechanism, particularly for regions with limited hydrometeorological infrastructure.
We’ll also explore large-scale early warning systems, such as MeteoAlarm, and showcase Austria’s mature Multi-Hazard Advisory Services approach.
As GeoSphere Austria expands its international engagement, we invite you to share your insights: What is still missing? How can we better support the AA global community?

- SOFF Activities: Sandra Eder and Giora Gershtein
