Description

On 16 September 2026, the IFRC and the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre will host a one-day global online summit bringing together global leaders, community voices and climate innovators to explore practical solutions for addressing climate risks. The summit aims to move beyond discussion and focus on action to help communities better anticipate, prepare for and reduce the impacts of climate-related disasters.

A dedicated theme of the summit, “Getting Ahead of Disasters – How communities can better anticipate, prepare for, and reduce climate risks”, will highlight approaches that strengthen resilience and enable earlier action before crises occur.

The event will also feature several sessions from the Anticipation and Action (AA) community, showcasing experiences, tools and practical approaches for strengthening locally led climate action. Particularly interesting could be the following sessions:

  • Sep 16, 2026 · 11:00 CEST:  Providing early warning systems that lead to local early action: What works well at the local level?
  • Sep 16, 2026 · 11:00 CEST:  Arabic session - Lessons from local climate action in FCAS: preparing, anticipating, responding and adapting to climate
  • Sep 16, 2026 · 16:00 CEST:  Making anticipatory action ‘future fit’: are we ready for what is to come?
