Anticipating El Niño: what needs to be done? (later edition)

Description

The likelihood of a strong El Niño event in mid-2026 is high, with the humanitarian impacts for the regions at risk expected to be severe. Activities to anticipate and prepare for these impacts need to begin now. What are the immediate steps needed by the anticipatory action community – and are we ready? 

During this webinar, forecasting experts and practitioners will explain and discuss:

• What are the forecasts currently indicating?
• What concrete impacts are we expecting around the world?
• How does this compare with past El Niño events?
• Which anticipatory action frameworks are in place?
• What actions are planned and funded – and what is missing?
• How can the anticipatory action community organize and collaborate for maximum effect before El Niño strikes?

There will also be opportunities for participants to ask questions and share their own ideas.

There will be two instances of this webinar to accomodate people in different time zones.
