Description

Over the past three years, anticipatory action has gained significant momentum across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Through the collective efforts of governments, National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, UN agencies, humanitarian organizations, research institutions, donors and communities, the region has built a shared vision for acting ahead of climate-related and complex hazards.

Under this year's theme, 'From roadmap to reality: connecting efforts, strengthening systems for anticipatory action in MENA', the 3rd MENA Dialogue Platform on Anticipatory Humanitarian Action will mark a transition from vision-setting and commitment-building to implementation and institutionalization. It will bring together approximately 150-200 regional and global partners to explore what is needed to make anticipatory action a standard and sustainable approach across the region.

Discussions will centre on three areas:

  1. Taking stock: from commitments to progress.
  2. Strengthening systems for scale: institutionalizing anticipatory action within national and regional systems, including early warning, social protection and locally led action.
  3. Financing and partnerships for the future: pathways to sustainable financing and stronger regional cooperation.

The platform will conclude with a joint outcome statement and a regional call to action outlining priority commitments for 2027-2028.

Read the concept note in Arabic and English.

The 3rd MENA Dialogue Platform on Anticipatory Action is being supported by the IFRC and the Norwegian Red Cross.
