Community conversation #20: Departing soon: locally led AA working group

Date & Time

Thursday, 18th of July 2024; 13:00 - 14:30 CEST

Since May 2024, a new working group under the umbrella of the Anticipation Hub has been promoting locally led anticipatory action. The working group aims to empower communities and local actors to implement anticipatory actions, improve early warning systems, and advocate for flexible financing. It fosters collaboration among civil society, government, and Red Cross and Red Crescent national societies to achieve these goals.

The working group, through collaboration between international and local organizations, has developed its terms of reference, drafted a policy brief, and holds regular meetings. It plans to produce and promote resources and tools to support implementation, and to advocate for scaling-up locally led approaches to anticipatory action based on evidence.

The members imagine this working group to be a bus, requiring one or multiple skilled driver(s) to guide its strategic direction, define its areas of focus, and ensure broad engagement with diverse stakeholders.

In this community conversation the working group will discuss with interested participants how to determine the leadership and what resources would be needed to lead effectively. The working group also encourages the proposal of individuals, organizations, or networks which could potentially be part of the leadership of this group.

As the focus of this community conversation is on locally led anticipatory action, representatives from NGOs and agencies involved in humanitarian and development efforts are primarily invited.
We eagerly await participants’ contributions to this vital discussion on advancing locally led anticipatory action in the humanitarian and development sectors.
English and a French livestream translation will be provided.
