Monsoon Pilot 2024: Digital & Blockchain Technologies in Anticipatory Action

In September 2024, the readiness stage was activated for the Babai and Karnali River Basins in Nepal, indicating a potential flood. This triggered the implementation of anticipatory actions in Bardiya and Kailali districts. Recognizing the need for enhanced efficiency, transparency and accountability during this critical period when swift coordination and communication among multiple stakeholders is essential – the Danish Red Cross, the Nepal Red Cross Society and tech partner Rumsan collaborated to develop Rahat, a digital application designed to facilitate timely and effective actions. The application was successfully tested during the activation, and this case study documents the main lessons.
