Somalia Anticipatory Action: Drought 2021

This report summarizes the use and results of CERF-allocated funds for the 2021 activation of the Somalia anticipatory action framework addressing drought in Somalia. The first section provides an allocation overview, addressing CERF’s added value, noting that the funds addressed all four chronically underfunded priority areas either directly or indirectly, and provided information on key achievements and populations reached. In total, 661,166 people directly reached with CERF funding. Lessons learned include the importance of early action to mitigate the worst impacts of droughts on human suffering and the importance of planning and sharing among partners. Suggestions for improvement include the need to maintain focus on and scale up anticipatory action programming, particularly for slow-onset emergencies, and the need for more time for proposal preparation to better plan and share information among agencies/clusters.
