Guidance note on FbF in Urban Areas - experiences and lessons

The world is urbanizing at an unprecedented rate. Today, 56.6 per cent of us – more than half of the world’s population – lives in cities, while the impacts of climate change along with limited access to weather and climate information, coupled with governance challenges, compound cities’ vulnerability to natural hazards. Anticipatory actions present a unique opportunity to protect lives and livelihoods in advance of urban disasters. This guidance note wants to give an understanding of the urban context for humanitarian actors, while focusing on examining the implementation of anticipatory approaches in urban contexts and highlighting the possibilites to scale-up anticipatory approaches in rapidly urbanizing but vulnerable areas around the world.
