Forecasting Drought in Zimbabwe: Advances, Challenges, and Future Opportunities
In Zimbabwe, agricultural activities are the primary source of income for 67% of the total population residing in rural areas. Most agriculture is rain-fed, making it susceptible to drought. Climate change increases the frequency and intensity of drought. This means the impact of drought on the livelihood of people increases.
510, the Data & Digital initiative of the Netherlands Red Cross, developed a drought trigger model with the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society, the Danish Red Cross, the Finnish Red Cross and other governmental partners in-country (part of the Technical Working Group).
