Anticipatory Action in Asia and the Pacific - 2023

 WFP in Asia and the Pacific adopts a proactive risk-management approach to the climate crisis through anticipatory action.

Asia and the Pacific Region is the most disaster-prone region in the world, vulnerable to both weather-related hazards such as typhoons/cyclones, droughts, floods, and extreme temperatures, as well as geophysical hazards such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis.

Since 2015, WFP has been developing AA programmes in collaboration with governments and development partners in Asia and the Pacific. AA programmes enable the implementation and financing of actions before extreme weather events occur. These anticipatory actions aim to prevent and mitigate – to the extent possible – the effects of extreme weather on the food security and nutrition of highly vulnerable people.
